The Launching of Calabash Magazine !

THE CALABASH MAGAZINE was formerly launched on Sunday 24th July, witnessed by a cross section of the Sierra Leone, Ghana and Nigeria communities in London. Theoccasion also attracted several academicians, students, educationists, politicians, business people etc. The ceremony was piloted by seasoned and respected journalists, Winston Ojukutu Macauley- former Focus on Africa correspondent and Retty Forster formerly of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting and Television Services.

Sierra Leone High Commisioner Speaks to Calabash

On the run up to Sierra Leone’s 47th Independence anniversary, Calabash Magazine called on the Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Mr Melvin Challobah, at the Chancery in Holborn, West Central London, to discuss Sierra Leone’s progress and achievements over the past forty seven years and his interaction with the Sierra Leone community in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Mr Melvin Challobah took up the office as Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the UK in October 2006. Speaking to a cross section of the Sierra Leone Diaspora they agreed that Mr Challobah is, without doubt, one of the best representatives Sierra Leone has had in the UK since the tenure of Mr D.L Summer in the seventies.

Tony Blair's Sierra Leonean Connection

The Tag (White man s Grave) did nothing to deter Leo Blair to opt to go to this West African country. His only thoughts were for his young family. Bill the eldest was doing fine so was Tony. Sarah, his daughter was still a baby. Earlier that evening he had given the news to Hazel, his wife, who was taking her time to think about it. Leo was sitting in his study going over some notes, the kids were in bed and Hazel had retired. He stretched and reached for the book he got from the library during the lunch break.
